Sailboat

Ok, a couple of things:
~ this is not the patriotic Sailboat featured in the calendar, we went in a more piratey direction
~ I cannot deny that we were thinking of these pirate skulls & bones when making this block
~ I am also unable to deny that we have been listening to this song repeatedly, night and day, since Patrick downloaded legally purchased it at full price after we saw Pineapple Express last weekend. This song's not for everyone, but we are seriously obsessed.

Ruins of Jericho

This is today's block, featuring some incredibly gorgeous fabric out of Lakehouse's Hydrangea Garden line. I really like the quilt block pattern, and I'm thrilled with how that orange fabric looks.

Tonight I watched 27 Dresses. I never got a chance to see it in the theaters, and I really like Katherine Heigl. I really enjoyed the movie, but my favorite part was afterwards. In the movie, Izzy and Cyclops (I swear, those are their real names) share a drunken sing-a-long over their mutual love of Elton John's seminal classic, Benny and the Jets. So my favorite part of this movie was washing the dishes afterwards, listening to (in my opinion) the very best Elton John songs and singing to the metaphorical rafters. And since I know you're dying to know, those songs are:
Tiny Dancer (natch), Rocket Man, and - my personal favorite - Saturday Night's Alright For Fighting.

Am I missing anything? I mean, I can live the rest of my life without hearing frickin' Candle In The Wind again. Well, maybe just once a year.

Buttercup

This was a fun block because I pieced the stem instead of doing it by applique, and I got to use another one of the hand-marbled scraps I bought to its best advantage. That yellow looks really nice.

The name, while an accurate description of the flora, cannot help but stir that refrain by The Foundations: "Why do you build me up, Buttercup, baby, just to let me down...and mess me around?" Due to a youthful devotion to the local oldies station, I know all the words to this song, and so many other of its era. What I missed out on by getting to know this song when it was only released in compilations is the uber-creepiness of the original album cover:

That flower-face looks like the middle of a bad LSD montage.
