The Twilight Saga: Eclipse - fashion edition

Bella Swan, fashionista at heart?
Who would have thought that Bella Swan could be a fashion icon? Well maybe not, but her jeans are definitely something to talk about. A week ago today the Twilight world went crazy when the Eclipse trailer was finally released. Of course I was too busy focusing on the action, but while reading about the trailer afterwards I saw that Bella's two coloured jeans (pictured above) were by Adriano Goldschmied.

AG Jeans are the perfect brand for anyone who is looking for one-of-a-kind jeans that you won't see everyone wearing. With a huge range of styles to choose from, there's something for all. I love their bootcut jeans, they're super hot!

Go to Adriano Goldschmied to check out the brand and shop the collection.

Unfinished Objects - (UFOs)

Today I saw Julie & Julia, a movie that struck a chord with me. The Julie/Julia Project was a one-year project to make all the recipes in "Mastering the Art of French Cooking." If you don't know why the story of this goal got to me, well, you haven't been reading this blog long.

The movie was great, well written, well cast, and completely charming - I highly recommend it! And it left me with the desire to reposition my nose a little closer to the grindstone. I came home and went right to my sewing room, where I haven't spent more than an accumulated hour since preparation for the Quilt Retreat. Which was in May! Patrick and I went through all my UFOs (you gotta love a man who knows what UFO stands for) and made a list.

The list (in brief) is in the right column, under my profile. I have a longer list which includes all the steps that need to be accomplished for each project. I'm hoping to make a dent in this over time. With the exception of baby presents and Christmas gifts, I won't be starting any new projects.

** In a knitting aside, I wore my obscenity socks all day yesterday and they were LOVELY! **

Sailboat

Ok, a couple of things:
~ this is not the patriotic Sailboat featured in the calendar, we went in a more piratey direction
~ I cannot deny that we were thinking of these pirate skulls & bones when making this block
~ I am also unable to deny that we have been listening to this song repeatedly, night and day, since Patrick downloaded legally purchased it at full price after we saw Pineapple Express last weekend. This song's not for everyone, but we are seriously obsessed.

Ocean Waves

Ocean Waves - I made this block and rewatched Clerks II to satisfy a movie craving.

Movie cravings are similar to food cravings. Once we were watching The Colbert Report while he was being commercially endorsed in his run for President and ended up eating Doritos for dinner. Well, earlier at the gym my iPod shuffled over to some Jackson Five and I just had to watch the dance number to ABC in Clerks II.

And judge me if you like, but I just love this movie. Loved Clerks (the first) and the entire Kevin Smith oeuvre that followed. Because I really do care about the moral implications of murdering innocent construction workers on the as-yet operational Death Star.

Ruins of Jericho

This is today's block, featuring some incredibly gorgeous fabric out of Lakehouse's Hydrangea Garden line. I really like the quilt block pattern, and I'm thrilled with how that orange fabric looks.

Tonight I watched 27 Dresses. I never got a chance to see it in the theaters, and I really like Katherine Heigl. I really enjoyed the movie, but my favorite part was afterwards. In the movie, Izzy and Cyclops (I swear, those are their real names) share a drunken sing-a-long over their mutual love of Elton John's seminal classic, Benny and the Jets. So my favorite part of this movie was washing the dishes afterwards, listening to (in my opinion) the very best Elton John songs and singing to the metaphorical rafters. And since I know you're dying to know, those songs are:
Tiny Dancer (natch), Rocket Man, and - my personal favorite - Saturday Night's Alright For Fighting.

Am I missing anything? I mean, I can live the rest of my life without hearing frickin' Candle In The Wind again. Well, maybe just once a year.

Star-Spangled Banner

This Star-Spangled Banner block caused more than its share of trouble. I ran out of every fabric, so there are three different light-colored fabrics. I made the blue and white blocks wrong, so they had to be cut down from 3-1/2" of wrongness to 2-1/2" of usability. As a result, this is a 12" block instead of the pattern's 18" block. And because 4 does not divide by 3 very easily, the stripy bits were a little screwed up too. Oof. Who's ready for the weekend?

In other news, we went and saw Indiana Jones & The Crystal Skulls tonight. I give it a B-, and that rating rides largely on the laurels of the prior three movies. Not much compared to the unspeakable awesomeness of Iron Man. Oh...I want one of those suits so bad!
