Geese In Flight & Shnoodle On The Road

Gosh we've got a lot to cover, let's get to it:


Today's block is Geese In Flight. As my fabric addiction adds to the stash, it's important to start using up some of the older cuts. This block used up two fabrics completely, and I'm thrilled. The "etc." fabric was difficult to color-match and that blue is hell on the machine - my thread broke twice! That being said, I think they go together well and all my et ceteras face the right way.

So, yesterday's coverage of my recent tour of New England quilt shops left us in Hyannis, MA. From there we headed up the coast to Portsmouth, NH.


Portsmouth is a gorgeous coastal town and home to the Portsmouth Fabric Company. Through absolutely no planning on my part, we were there during a visit from Kaffe Fassett.


I got these gorgeous two beautiful fabrics. The black one is a print of silver dollars, and the red is another stripe from the man himself.


As we approached Center Harbor, NH, I started to levitate several inches from the car seat in my excitement. Mecca. The first time I saw a fabric catalog, it was from Keepsake Quilting. This was not a disappointing pilgrimage.


Candice showed me how the KQ crew cut their yardage. Isn't that nifty?


Then they fold all the corners back and make it fancy.


Things might have gotten a little out of hand here, but it's Keepsake Quilting! Say you wouldn't have done the same...


Next on the route was Seams Sew Right - the last quilt shop before we crossed into Vermont. Their prices were very reasonable, and I enjoyed their selection:


And of course, there's a very special quilt that lives in Vermont during October and November. Jane.

It. Was. Awesome.


Much like the Mona Lisa, the Jane Stickle quilt is much smaller than you'd expect it to be. It was very inspiring and made me anxious to start mine. But with the Block-A-Day on my plate, it will have to wait until next year.

All around, it was a very quilty vacation. Many thanks to the infinite patience of Patrick for letting me drag him all around and listen to me say, "ooh, look at this one" approximately a gazillion times. Still, he's had his revenge by posting this picture.

Damn it feels good to be a {quilty} gangsta.
